If you’re anything like me, then spring cleaning is definitely a must to help declutter and get rid of things that are no longer needed. I love spring cleaning because it’s an excuse to tackle deep cleaning and give your home sparkle and shine, inside and out.

spring cleaning is great for the mind, body, and soul.  Although spring cleaning may feel overwhelming, the feeling of a decluttered and fresh home, in the end, is totally worth it!

Bust open your windows, take out your cleaning supplies, and use my free checklist at the bottom of this article to start you on your spring cleaning mission for 2021.

spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a boring and daunting task. Put on your favorite music and get going. If you want, you can always recruit some family and friends to help out if you want to get it all done in one day and reward them with some wine and pizza at the end of the day.

Best Spring Cleaning Tip: Collect all of Your Cleaning Supplies

what I like to do is use my checklist, and collect all of my cleaning supplies and keep it in one spot.

I usually keep all of my cleaning supplies on the kitchen table so that it’s easier to switch when needed.

I personally love using as many natural cleaning products as I can. Why? Because many cleaning products contain ingredients that are harmful to your health. Now that I have a kid, I always want to make sure that I’m using eco-friendly and non-toxic products as much as I can.

Read this article for more information on why natural cleaning products are better for your home, family, & environment.

Some of my favourite natural cleaning products are:

Focus on One Room At a Time

A spring cleaning tip to make the most out of your time is to focus on one room at a time.  I love to start with the top floor and make my way down.

I used to be all over the place in the past, but I find that it really tires me out. knowing that I’ve completed one part of the house motivates me to do the rest.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Bedding

Remove all your bedding.  Although I said before to focus on one room, I always like to take the bedding off in every single room first.

I love putting bedding in the wash as one of my first tasks.  If you have white sheets like mine, you can always deep clean them with vinegar and baking soda (don’t worry you won’t be able to smell the vinegar).

I do this at least twice a month, and it keeps my sheets staying super white and fresh.

Check out this page for instructions on how to clean white bedsheets.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Mattress

Spring Cleaning Tips

Yes, mattresses need cleaning too.

What I like to do is vacuum the top and sides of the mattress. I then flip it and do the same to the other side. I keep the mattress flipped as it’s always a good idea to rotate your mattress on occasion.

Do this in every single room in your house.

Read these tips on how to get your mattress staying as fresh as the day you bought it.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Furniture

Spring Cleaning Tips

This is a super important spring cleaning tip, that I always make sure I do a few times a year.

Imagine how many people sit, lay, or sleep on your couches and chairs.  Humans shed skin all the time, so just imagine how much dead skin is lingering on your sofa.

I love this Bissell Spot Cleaner and use it all the time to clean my couches and chairs.

Make sure to get as deep inside the cracks as you can.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Flush the Drains in the Kitchen and Bathrooms

Spring Cleaning Tips

Vinegar has so many benefits when it comes to deep cleaning your house. One of its many great benefits is helping to keep your drains clog-free.

All you need to do is pour a cup of distilled vinegar down the drain.  I recommend doing this at least a couple of times a month to get the most benefits from it.

Let the mixture sit for around an hour and then turn on the cold water.  Don’t forget about your carburetors as well.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Tubs

Spring Cleaning Tips

This isn’t a favorite, but it has to be done.  If you have fabric bath curtains, remove them and either put them in the washing machine or hand clean them if they’re plastic.

I love using Puracy All-Purpose Cleaner, to clean the tub. Spray it down and use one of the brushes in this set to clean scrub the tub down.

If you find that there is a lot of grout use ¼ cup of vinegar, and one tablespoon of dish soap

I like to use hot water at the end and give the tub a good rinse.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Purge Every Closet in the House

Spring Cleaning Tips

Like I mentioned before I love to hoard things, but I’ve gotten much better in the past few years with being able to donate or sell things that I no longer need.

I love going through every closet and finding things that I could either sell or donate to Salvation Army.

I’ve also used Facebook Marketplace to sell items such as clothing, decor pieces, artwork, and dishes that we no longer need.

I always have two piles one for donating and one for selling.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Out Your Makeup Drawer

I like to do this often because makeup can get old fast. Also, I don’t know about you but anywhere I store my makeup gets dirty so quick

I hate powder and foundation residue so I love doing a deep clean, especially during spring. I always take out all of my makeup and throw away anything that’s old or that I don’t use anymore.  I then wipe down any bins or storage that I keep my makeup in.

Check out this post on when to throw out your makeup according to a dermatologist.

Also, don’t forget your brushes. I love using this easy brush cleaner to get my brushes clean, at least once a month.  All you need to do is add dishwasher liquid and water and you’re set.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Blinds

Spring Cleaning Tips

this is a spring cleaning tip that can often get overlooked.  But there is a lot of dust and grime that can build up on blinds, so make sure you’re cleaning those during your spring cleaning.

Use a soft microfiber cloth and dip it in a mixture of warm water and vinegar, and wipe down your blinds.

Once it’s dry, take a dryer sheet and go over the blinds one more time, this will help to repel the dust.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Baseboards

This is another spring cleaning tip that I absolutely dread, but it has to happen.  I use the 7th generation wipes and clean my baseboards with these.

At least once a week I go over my baseboards with a broom but this still won’t take away the dirt and grime fully. When I do my spring cleaning I use the wipes to remove all the dust, dirt, and grime in every room. Don’t forget to get the baseboards behind the furniture.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Washer & Dryer

Spring Cleaning Tips

Believe it or not, your washer and dryer need a good deep clean every so often.  Detergent residue contributes to the wear and tear of washers and dryers.

To clean your washer, Add 2 cups of vinegar through a full hot water washing cycle (do not add clothes to this cycle).

If you’ve never done this, try doing it two times in a row to make sure your washer is squeaky clean. I recommend doing this at least once a month.

For your dryer, scrub down your lint tray to give it a good clean. Also, get in there and clean your dryer vent, vent pipe, and hoses for an extra deep clean (if you have the time).

If you have a laundry room, make sure you go through all the cupboards and organize/clean them.  Throw away anything that isn’t needed.

Also, sweep and mop the floors and wipe down any surfaces.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Out Your Entire Fridge

Spring Cleaning Tips

This is one of my best spring cleaning tips that I absolutely hate, so I’m always hoping that my husband chooses this task (sorry hubby).

The best way to clean a fridge is to take every single thing out of the fridge.  Wipe down every single surface of the fridge, including the side where you keep your condiments (the most annoying part to clean in the fridge).

I always keep a box of baking soda in the fridge to keep it staying fresh, trust me it works. Baking soda helps eliminate odors, and it’s best to replace it every three months.

I go through everything in the fridge to see if it has expired and throw it out. I also wipe down anything that has a spill on it, just to make sure everything goes back clean.

Also, don’t forget to wipe the outside of your fridge as well.  Read this article on how to get your stainless steel fridge extra clean and shiny.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Ovens

Spring Cleaning Tips

This is one of the best spring cleaning tips, but also takes a little bit of time.

a lot of ovens do have a self cleaner button, I have yet to understand how it works, so I always just clean it the old-fashioned way.

You can clean your oven with my favorite duo, vinegar, and baking soda. Check out this link for instructions on how to clean your ovens.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Burners

Spring Cleaning Tips

I like to do this every so often as I have OCD when it comes to my kitchen being clean. We have gas burners so this is how I clean them.

Try to do this at least once a week to make sure that your burners don’t have any leftover food that can catch on fire.

Read this article on how to clean gas stover burners and caps, it’s honestly pretty easy and not very time-consuming.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Out All Kitchen Cabinets

Spring Cleaning Tips

This is one of the best spring cleaning tips because your kitchen is one of the most used rooms in your home.

You’d be surprised at the amount of stuff that’ll be expired once you clean out your kitchen cabinet.

Again, I try to do this every few months but sometimes life gets the best of me.  Take everything out of your cabinets, and throw away things that have expired. I do this for my pantry, spice drawer, and all of the cabinets in my kitchen.

If there is any kitchenware that I don’t need, I put it in the donate pile.

*TIP* I love using clear cabinet protector liners for the bottom of the cabinets.  This prevents any leaks or spills to ruin the cabinets. If you’re someone who buys and sells homes often, this is important to maintain your cabinets just in case you want to sell your house one day.  Also, it makes for easy cleanup if something does spill.

Also, don’t forget to wipe down your kitchen cabinets with Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Wipes.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Toaster

Best Spring Cleaning Tips

I try to do this at least once a month because there’s a lot of yucky stuff hiding in your toaster.

If you don’t know already, there’s a crumb tray that you can pull out.  I give this a wash and place it back in. I also wipe down the toaster with a wet rag. Make sure to let it completely dry before you plug it back in.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Microwave

I do this at least once a month.  Open your microwave right now and I’ll guarantee you there are stains and/or residue build-up.  Don’t worry this can get cleaned easily.

In a microwave-safe bowl, add one cup of water, one cup of vinegar, and 2 tbsp of lemon juice.  Put the bowl in the microwave on high for two minutes.

Once it’s done, use a microfibre cloth to wipe it down.  I like to leave the microwave door open for a couple hours to air it out after.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Dishwasher

Best Spring Cleaning Tips

Another great spring cleaning tip. I bet there aren’t a lot of you that clean your dishwasher often (I mean I don’t).

Dishwashers often have calcium buildup, so it’s important to make sure that you clean it every so often.

Give your dishwasher a refresh by dumping a few cups of vinegar in your dishwasher and running a cycle without dishes in it (make sure to use hot water).

It’s that easy!

Spring Cleaning Tip: Disinfect Your Garbage Cans

One of the best spring cleaning tips that you probably didn’t think of.

Sounds weird right? Why the heck would anyone clean their garbage cans when they end up getting dirty right away?

Garbage cans/bins contain a lot of bad bacteria that builds up.  This bacteria can attract flies, weird bugs, and even maggots…GROSS!!!!

Also, garbage cans tend to have bad odors, so it’s a good idea to clean them often.

If you want a natural solution to clean your garbage cans use the products below (yes, it contains vinegar hahah) :

  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • 2 tbs of rubbing alcohol
  • 30-40 drops of eucalyptus oil

remove everything out of the garbage can and give it a good rinse (I like to do this outside as it can get messy, and I like to use my garden hose).  Then dib a rag in the solution and clean every single crevice (make sure to wear gloves while you do this).

Once it’s clean give it a good rinse and let it air dry outside.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Organize Your Medicine Cabinet

Best Spring Cleaning Tips

This is another great spring cleaning tip.  Throughout the year we are always adding something new to the medicine cabinet.

Did you know that medicine can expire too? Make sure you read all of the labels to make sure that nothing is expired.

I love these drawer organizers from Amazon. I use them for almost every cupboard in the house. They keep everything in cupboards and drawers neat and organized.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Dust Your Ceiling Fans

Best Spring Cleaning Tips

One of the best spring cleaning tips that can get overlooked.  fans because they’re so high up we often don’t remember to clean them.

Trust me, you definitely want to clean your ceiling fans. The best way to do this is to take a ladder and use a rag and wipe the dust off.

You could always use an extendable duster if you don’t have a ladder.  This is a must when spring cleaning.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Wipe Down Your Lamps

This is another great spring cleaning tip.  I bet if you took a look at all your lamps right now, you’d see some dust building up.

I love using a microfiber cloth to clean the dust off. Just like I explained with the blinds, use a dryer sheet to repel any dust.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Use Old T-shirts to Wipe Down Mirrors and Surfaces

I love this idea because you’re not wasting a gazillion paper towels to clean your house.  We love keeping old t-shirts and towels to use when we do a big spring cleaning around the house.

The best thing is you can wash them and reuse them for your next big clean.

Another great tip for getting streak-free mirrors is using old newspapers with ATTITUDE hypoallergenic window and mirror cleaner which works like a charm!

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Old Shoes With Baking Soda

If you’re anything like me, you hate purging and throwing out your stuff. I don’t know what it is but I always tell myself that I’ll be needing these one day.  Sometimes I just can’t find it in my to throw any of my stuff away.

Check out this post on how to clean old dirty shoes with baking powder.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Erase Wall Scuffs

This is another one of the best spring cleaning tips.  Believe it or not, I find it rather satisfying to clean wall scuffs (I know, I know I’m a weirdo haha).

My favorite product to use for wall scuffs is Mr Clean Magic Eraser. It literally is magic and you can get off just about any scuff on the wall.

If it doesn’t end up coming off, you can always paint those spots.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Toss Throw Pillows in The Dryer

Putting throw pillows in a hot dryer will kill any dust mites that are on your pillows.  This is another great spring cleaning tip because I bet you rarely clean your throw pillows (I honestly don’t, and need to make more of an effort to do it more often).

Think about all of that dead skin and dust that gets accumulated on your throw pillows. I actually recommend doing this every few months, to keep your throw pillows fresh.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Clean Your Kids Playroom

I like to do this at least once a month. This is one of the best spring cleaning tips, especially if you have children. I always try to rotate Milan’s toys and donate things that he doesn’t need anymore.

Also, cleaning and sanitizing toys are very important. I love using Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Wipes to clean Milan’s toys and disinfect them.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Cleaning Your Floors

Sweep and mop your floors with a non-ammonia and non-soap product.  Tackle grout with my favorite Bissell Steam Cleaner.  This steam cleaner cleans and sanitizes sealed hard floors without the use of harsh chemicals.  Eliminates 99.9 percent of germs and bacteria with the natural power of steam.

There are so many different types of flooring in homes, so it’s important to know how to clean the ones that are in your house.

Read this article to learn how to clean carpet, tile & vinyl, hardwood, and laminate flooring.

Spring Cleaning Tip: Purify The Air

Another great spring cleaning tip is to purify the air.  While I’m cleaning I love to open all of the windows to get some fresh air into the house.

I don’t like using sprays like Febreze, because they’re filled with a lot of chemicals that I don’t want myself or my family breathing in.

Simply opening all of the windows in your house for a few hours is a great way to purify the air in your home.

Also, I love using essential oils and putting them in diffusers around the house.

I hope my spring cleaning tips have helped.  I know this may sound like an arduous task, but it is so worth it.

The feeling you get when you know your home is squeaky clean is the best!

Happy Spring Cleaning!
