Quinoa Crusted Chicken Strips With Honey Mustard Sauce

May 28, 2020

Quinoa crusted chicken strips are the perfect lunch or dinner option for toddlers.  Paired with a tangy honey mustard sauce, this recipe is perfect for the whole entire family.  Who doesn’t love chicken strips? Even adults love to indulge in them from time to time (I know I do).  Chicken strips are so yummy, but a lot of the times they are also cooked in a lot of oil, which makes it not so healthy for children.

I love making dishes for my son that are healthy, but also flavorful.  Although I do include fat in his diet, I want to make sure that it’s a healthy fat that I’m giving him.

These quinoa crusted chicken strips are so tasty and healthy. I use cooked quinoa and whole-wheat bread crumbs to create the perfect crunchy and tasty chicken strips, that are perfect for the entire family.

STEP 1

Cook the quinoa (make sure to rinse the quinoa under the sink for 30 seconds before cooking, or else you’ll find that the quinoa will have a bitter taste).

STEP 2

Once the quinoa is cooked. Take out the excess moisture, by patting it with a towel.

also,

I like flattening my chicken breast before I cook it.  I feel like it cooks faster, and it’s also easier for toddlers and kids to eat when the chicken is not so thick. I then cut the chicken into thin strips.

STEP 3

In a shallow bowl or on a plate, combine the cooked quinoa, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, cajun seasoning, and whole-wheat breadcrumbs. Mix until well combined.

STEP 4

In another shallow bowl or on a plate, crack two eggs to create an egg wash

STEP 5

Dip the chicken strips in the egg wash, followed by the quinoa mixture. Repeat these steps for all of the chicken strips.

STEP 6

Add olive oil to a non-stick skillet, and fry on each side for around 5 to 6 minutes until the quinoa has a nice gold color to it.

Once the chicken strips are done, you can start working on the honey mustard sauce. It’s so easy! All you have to do is combine all of the ingredients and mix well. This honey mustard sauce is to die for, and goes so well with the chicken strips!

My son loved these quinoa crusted chicken strips!  He loved dipping the chicken strips in the sauce and even dipped his finger and licked it too.  I hope you enjoy making and eating these crunchy chicken strips, just as much as I did!

I love the idea of adding cooked quinoa to the breading! Baked chicken tenders are a favorite for us as well, so will need to make these one night soon. I have a feeling my husband will keep the honey mustard sauce for himself and fight me off. Ha! 😉
