12 Genius Pregnancy Hacks to Make Your Life Easier

September 5, 2019

You’re here because you’re newly pregnant, and you’re looking for some pregnancy hacks.

Am I right?

As a newly pregnant woman, some days you feel great, and other days you ain’t having it. It’s such a wonderful time as you prepare for this new bundle of joy, but it’s also a time of so many changes in your life & body.

Between the raging hormones, the nausea, and the sore body, you are in for a wild ride for 9 (almost 10 months), of your pregnancy.

Over the 9 months of my pregnancy, I was able to come up with quite a few pregnancy hacks that made my life easier.

Every day can be a struggle when you’re an expectant mother. From nausea, a growing belly, and the stretch marks, your body is going through so many changes at a rapid rate.

Whether you’re looking for early pregnancy hacks, pregnancy sleeping hacks, or pregnancy sickness hacks, I’m here to help.

I hope my pregnancy hacks will make your pregnancy go a little smoother.

1. Pregnancy Hacks #1 – Ginger Candies to  Fight Nausea & Morning Sickness

Oh man, the dreaded nausea. I have no idea who invented the term ‘morning sickness,’ there is no way in hell I only had ‘morning sickness.’

Instead it should be called ‘all day sickness.” If you’re one of the unlucky ones like myself, you may be feeling nauseous all day every day, for your entire pregnancy.

But thankfully there are quite a few pregnancy nausea hacks.

My absolute favourite thing to help me with pregnancy nausea was the Ginger Peoples Gingins Candy.

These candies worked wonders and was one of my absolute favourite pregnancy hack as a new mother. I was so miserable for the first 15 weeks of my pregnancy until I stumbled upon these candies.

These are truly a lifesaver and a great early pregnancy hack.

The Ginger People Gingins Candy

2. Pregnancy Hacks #2 – Pregnancy Pillow

One of my favourite hacks for pregnancy is a pregnancy pillow.  It was such a great pain reliever and made sleep so comfortable.

I love to sleep on my stomach, and that is a big no-no when you’re pregnant. I could never find the perfect position, even when placing regular pillows in between my legs. I bought a pregnancy pillow from Babies R Us, but it just didn’t do the job. My husband found me the PharMeDoc Pregnancy Pillow.

It’s U Shaped and helps support your back, hips, and belly. I have two slipped disks so this helped my back during my pregnancy, as I had a ton of discomfort.

So A+ for this pregnancy pillow hack.

PharMeDoc Pregnancy Pillow

C-shaped body pillow design replaces need for multiple bed pillows, helping support your back, hips, knees, neck and head.

This pregnancy pillow can help ease you into a better sleep, reducing interruptions throughout the night and helping relieve back pain associated with pregnancy

Pregnancy Hacks #3 – Preventing Stretch Marks

I was so scared of getting stretch marks I made sure to treat my growing stomach with the best oils and lotions.

The best advice I can give you is to start buttering up your tummy from the very beginning. Even if you don’t see a bump yet, just keep on buttering. Stock up on a lot of stretch mark cream!

My advice would be to put lotion/oil on your stomach at least twice a day. Because I was very diligent on making sure I was using my stretch mark creams and oil, I have very minimal stretch marks.

I absolutely LOVED using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula. It smells amazing and makes your skin feel so smooth and hydrated.

I also really loved Bio Oil as it’s very hydrating, and I still continue to use it.

Pregnancy Hacks #4 – Take Baby Prep Classes Online

I don’t know about you, but I sure as hell didn’t want to pay over $300 to attend a baby prep class.

yep, they’re literally cost that much!

I assure you, you don’t need to spend money on these classes.

We live in a generation where we have so many free resources, like YouTube!

I didn’t even know there were baby prep classes online, so this was one of my favourite money-saving pregnancy hacks.

I mean, who doesn’t wanna save money?

There’s a wonderful & informative YouTube class, my husband & I watched with a lovely instructor by the name of Holliday Tyson. It’s a 3-part video, which teaches you the fundamentals of everything pre-natal. Click here to take a look at the video.

Some important things she discusses are labor pains, pain management, labor positions, pushing tips, and so much more. Most of what you learn in baby prep classes, you won’t remember when your baby comes, so why waste the money when you can learn for free.

Pregnancy Hacks #5 – Get a Breast Pump Through Your Insurance

This is a pregnancy hack that most people don’t know of.

I’m not sure if you know this, but there’s a high chance your insurance will cover if not all, a portion of your breast pump.

Breast pumps are super expensive, but very much needed as a breastfeeding mother.

We purchased the Madela Breast Pump and loved it!

It’s super easy to use. It also doesn’t make a lot of noise, so if your baby is sleeping beside you and you need to pump, you don’t have to worry about waking up your baby.

So double check with your insurance company to see if they cover all or a portion of your breast pump.

Pregnancy Hacks #6 – Prenatal Yoga for an Easier Birth

A friend and I took prenatal yoga classes together, and it’s such an excellent way to condition your body so that it’s ready for birth.

Prenatal yoga was such a great pregnancy hack for me because it helped me so much not only to relax, but to prepare my body for birth.

It’s also a good way to keep you fit for the 9 months that your body is changing.

For me, it was relaxing and gave me a clear mind after my sessions. I even felt that it played a large part in my somewhat easy labor and delivery.

Do some research on local prenatal studios around you or you can even check out this YouTube video that I came across during my pregnancy.

I recommend practicing prenatal yoga at least 3 times a week if you want to see the benefits from it.

Pregnancy Hacks #7 – Get a Pregnancy Box Subscription

My husband surprised me with the Bump Box, and it was honestly so much fun opening these when they arrived.

It was a good way to try out different products, which are all organic.

They only carry products that are safe for pregnant women, and it’s such a great deal considering how many items you get per month for the price you are paying.

If you’ve ever purchased FabFitFun boxes, then you’re familiar with the Bump Box. The only difference is that it’s catered to pregnant women and new mothers.

You can order as many boxes as you like (they come once a month, until your baby is around two years old). You can check them out here.

Pregnancy Hacks #8 – Soaking your Feet in Tonic Water

I realized this so late in my pregnancy, and wish I knew about this pregnancy hack the moment I found out I was pregnant.

My feet got so HUGE and SWOLLEN, even elevating them didn’t work some times (another joy of being pregnant).

I read an article online that spoke about how cold or room temperature tonic water, helps reduce inflammation in your feet. I tried it out, and low and behold these gigantic looking feet of mine went back to normal.

Pregnancy Hacks #9 – Apple Cider Vinegar & Heartburn

I never knew how dreadful heartburn was until I got pregnant. You don’t know the feeling until it happens to you, and holy crap is it ever uncomfortable.

I know what you think, apple cider vinegar YUCK

This was such a good pregnancy hack because I started getting severe heartburn during the last trimester.

I even use apple cider vinegar to help aid in weight loss, but we’ll talk about that in a future post another day. Just a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water, and VOILA! Your chest pain that feels like a mini heart attack is gone! (don’t worry, it’s not harmful to baby)

Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar

Unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized and 5-Percent acidity and contains the amazing Mother of Vinegar.

A great way to relive hurt burn pains in pregnant women.

Pregnancy Hacks #10 – Kinesio Tape to Help Keep Your Baby Bump in Check

This pregnancy hack was introduced to me by one of my friends.  As the weeks go by, that bump of yours is going to get bigger and BIGGER.

The bigger it gets, the more discomfort you’re going to have. Kinesio tape is so perfect for those suffering from lower back and abdominal pain.

I mentioned earlier that I have to slipped discs in my back, so this was such a lifesaver for me. Just simply place the tape across your lower back and abdomen, it also helps to improve blood flow and inflammation. I used this tape throughout my pregnancy.

Kenisio Tape

Kinesiology tape is used to support and relieve pain in muscles, joints, and/or ligaments.

It reduces swelling, increases mobility and enhances recovery. Kinesiology Tape can be used to prevent or treat many common muscle and joint related injuries including: sprains, muscle strains, subluxations, and tendonitis.

Pregnancy Hacks #11 – Instead of Spend, Extend – The Maeband

The greatest maternity clothes hack. Because you don’t even need to buy new clothes (pants) with this pregnancy hack.

This pregnancy hack was my favorite.  Once my belly started getting a little fluffier, I started looking into some new jeans. I didn’t like the styles of any jeans or pants that I was finding

I also didn’t like the cost either..

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find that maternity stores jack up their prices, because they know women are desperate to find clothing that fits them.

One of the best purchases I ever made was the Maeband. A perfect little pregnancy hack, that costs way less than shopping for new pants.

OMG, this little contraption was so amazing! I wore my favorite pre-pregnancy jeans until I was 33 weeks pregnant.

After that I lived in tights and sweats.

You can adjust the strap as well if you are feeling a little snug, and it also comes in three different sizes (small, medium, and large). Make sure to measure yourself before you purchase. You’ll love this maternity jean hack.

Maeband

Maeband maternity belly bands temporarily expand and add stretch to any waistband throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

Maeband pregnancy belts extend your clothes, support your growing baby belly, and are a much more stylish, functional, and comfortable way to temporarily transform your favorite pre-pregnancy pants into maternity jeans.

Pregnancy Hacks #12 – Bra Extenders

Another contraption to help you save money.  Bra extenders help extend your bra so you can get more use out of it during the beginning of your pregnancy, and can still wear your favorite bra for the first half.

There is a high chance your boobs are going to be growing at a rapid rate, and these help accommodate the growth of the breasts.

Also, no one wants to buy maternity bra’s that are going to cost you a limb, which are also unusable after pregnancy.

I purchased these ones because they come in a pack of three with black, white, and tan colors.

This pregnancy hack is awesome for the first half of your pregnancy, however, I do recommend investing in sports bras after because your breasts will grow considerably.

Bra Extenders

Women bra extender sizes(LW): 9.8 x 3.2 cm, this bra extender has 3 rows of position hooks, 3 by 2 hooks enables you to adjust your bras easily
